² He did what was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not with a true heart.^{(A) 3} As soon as the royal power was firmly in his hand, he killed his servants who had murdered his father the king. ⁴ But he did not put their children to death, according to what is written in the law, in the book of Moses, where the Lord commanded, “The parents shall not be put to death for the children or the children be put to death for the parents, but all shall be put to death for their own sins.”^(B)
